What is Botox®?

Botox® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved, highly purified form of a protein that blocks nerve signals to your muscles. When your aesthetic professional at Ageless Aesthetics and Salt Lounge injects Botox into the dynamic muscles that cause wrinkles, your skin becomes flat and smooth again, feeling soft and appearing wrinkle-free.

  • Forehead wrinkles and furrows
  • Frown lines, also called 11s or glabellar lines
  • Crow’s feet at the sides of your eyes
  • Bunny lines at the top of your nose

Other uses off label include lifting droopy brows or injecting along the lip border to create a “lip-flip” to make one’s natural lip appear larger.  Vertical “smokers lines” can also be improved with these products.

If you have additional wrinkles that aren’t caused by dynamic muscles, your aesthetic professional may recommend hyaluronic acid dermal fillers or another therapy.

How do muscles cause wrinkles?

Botox treats a type of muscle called “dynamic muscle.” These muscles constantly push your skin into creases and folds when you make expressions such as frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows.

When you’re younger, your skin is thick and pliable enough to return to its original shape after making an expression. With age, however, your skin stops producing key building blocks, such as the proteins collagen and elastin. Your skin becomes thinner, more delicate, and can’t “bounce back.”

Botox effectively erases wrinkles caused by dynamic muscles by relaxing the muscles enough so that they can’t press your skin into folds. Your skin smooths out, looking silkier and line-free.

How long does Botox take to work?

Botox takes approximately 3-5 days to start working and up to two weeks for the full effect.  Approximate duration of neurotoxins is three to four months, but can last longer in some people as well as be metabolized more quickly by some.

Your Ageless Aesthetics team can set up a regular treatment schedule and a monthly payment plan.

Will Botox stop me from being expressive?

When administered by the Nurse Practitioners at Ageless Aesthetics, Botox stops your muscles from creating wrinkles, but not from making natural expressions. Your face is still wonderfully, beautifully, and naturally expressive.

What is xeomin? Is it the same as botox?

Xeomin® is another FDA-approved neuromodulator that relaxes dynamic muscles. Xeomin only contains the single protein that acts as a neurotoxin and may be more appropriate for women and men with sensitivities. Xeomin takes about four days to work and lasts approximately four months.

What is Jeuveau? Is it the same as Botox?

Jeuveau uses purified botulinum toxin to temporarily relax the small muscle groups that cause dynamic wrinkles. Compared to other neuromodulator injectables, Jeuveau has created ‘Hi-Pure’ technology. This helps Jeuveau to work efficiently by interrupting the communication between the nerve ending and its targeted muscle. Patients can see results in as little as 2-3 days, lasting up to 4 months.

What is Daxxify? How is it different?

Daxxify is different from Botox in that it works faster and for longer—most people will notice a major decrease in movement in two days with Daxxify, versus the usual 5-7 days with Botox, and Daxxify wears off after six months (on average), in comparison to Botox’s three to four months.

Dermal Fillers

Versa, RHA/Redensity, Radiesse, Voluma, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, Belotero

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases, or enhance facial contours. More than 1 million men and women annually have choose this popular facial rejuvenation treatment, which can be a cost-effective way to look younger without surgery or downtime.

While dermal fillers are casually known as “wrinkle fillers,” they can do much more than just smooth out wrinkles, although they are excellent at this too! Here are a few of the common issues dermal fillers can help address: Smooth out lines around nose and mouth (a.k.a. marionette lines, smile lines, and parentheses)

  • Enhance & restore volume to sunken cheeks or temples
  • Diminish vertical lip lines
  • Plump & enhance the lips
  • Smooth out a chin crease
  • Improve symmetry among facial features
